AutoLog 5 is Pipeline Digital's all-new solution for videotape logging. Driven by the powerful FileMaker Pro database engine, AutoLog 5 combines the power of FileMaker's searching and sorting abilities with Pipeline's excellent deck control and time code capabilities. AutoLog gives you complete remote control of your video deck, grabs time code, and if you have a Quicktime (Mac) or Video for Windows (Windows) video capture board, you may also be able to grab thumbnail pictures in your logs. AutoLog provides many layouts, unique ways to look at your data. These screens let you examine, export, and print out your logs. Batch lists (or EDLs) are easily created and exported to formats for all of the major nonlinear editors.

PLEASE NOTE: AutoLog for the Mac Platform is NOT COMPATIBLE with Intel based Macintosh. We currently have no eplans to release a version that will work with these Mac's.

AutoLog 5.0 Features:

  • Gives you control of a variety of VTRs from your computer. You can even log while recording.
  • Grabs SMPTE Time Code with a click of the mouse. Calculates scene durations automatically. Cues the VTR to a marked Time Code number automatically.
  • Includes AVID, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, and Media 100 log translators. Use AutoLog to create logs for non-linear systems without tying up the editor.

Installation Requirements

Windows

To use AutoLog on a Windows computer you need a PC with:

  • Windows 98, Windows 2000, XP with a Pentium processor
  • the Pipeline Digital PC-to-VTR (9-pin) cable,
  • one free COM Port, and a
  • video and/or audio digitizer card (Video for Windows compatible)

If your PC has a 25-pin male COM port, you can use a Port Adapter (DB25 female/DB9 male, Radio Shack Part No. 26-287) to connect the Pipeline Digital PC-to-VTR cable to your computer.

Macintosh

To use AutoLog on a Macintosh with a serial controlled VTR you need a:

  • Power PC Mac with
  • OS-X 10.1 or
  • OS Classic 8.5 or better (9.2 recommended, Limited support for the Classic Platform)
  • AutoLog is NOT compatible with Intel Macs.
  • the Pipeline Digital Mac-to-VTR (9-pin) cable
  • one free serial port (or a serial adapter)
  • video  digitizer card (QuickTime compatible)

For FireWire Macs, all that is required is a FireWire capable deck for both deck control and video capture.

Although current Macintoshes do not come equipped with a serial port, all RS-422, RS-232, and LANC decks require a serial connection. To control these machines, you must add a serial adapter to your Mac. Please visit our website for more information on serial adapters for the Mac.

Videotape Deck Requirements

VTRs used with Pipeline AutoLog must conform to one of the following control protocols:

  • Sony RS-422 (based on the UVW-1800 and DVW-A500)
  • Sony RS-232 (based on the DSR-20 RS-232 protocol of remote)
  • Sony RS-232 UVW (based on the UVW-1400)
  • Addenda RS-4/L (a LANC interface adapter)
  • Panasonic RS-232 (based on the AJ-D230 with RS-232 option)
  • Panasonic RS-422 (derivitive of Sony RS-422, based on the AG-DS850)
  • FireWire (Mac-only)

Sony LANC decks require either a Addenda Electronics RS-4/L, TAO Systems TAO L-Port.

RS-232 protocol decks require an RS-422 to RS-232 adapter. Refer to the accessories section of the Order Page for details.

Certified Digitizers

The following is a list of digitizers tested by Pipeline Digital. There may be models that are not listed here that may function correctly. If you have such a model, let us know and we will add it to our list.

Windows Requires Video for Windows (VFW) compatibility

AutoLog 5 SDK Shipping

Create your own customized logging system with AutoLog SDK! The package is a fully unlocked template that allows you to customize the template to suite your needs. Use these scripts to build a logging system that works exactly the way YOU want it to.

FileMaker Pro Requirements

  • Requires a full license of FileMaker Pro 6 or 7 or better for Windows platform and OS-X Platform
  • Requires a full license of FileMaker Pro 5 or 6  better for Mac Classic or Windows platform

FileMaker Pro 7 Runtime included

For those who do not own a license of FileMaker Pro, the package includes the run time version of FileMaker Pro for both all platforms.

  • Supports Macintosh OS-X (Classic run time is no longer supported my FileMaker).
  • Supports Windows 98, 2000, and XP Platforms

Software Only Notice

AutoLog requires the Pipeline Digital (Com Port or Mac Serial) to RS-422 device cable.  Unless you have another Pipeline Digital product that came this cable you can not order the software only versions.  Please go to the Contact page for links to sales and technical support.
